Ocean levels here, already a foot higher than they were decades ago, are set to rise another foot by the middle of October when a mammoth Kelvin wave sloshes its way to California. It will be here in time for the winter high tides, and no doubt large surf and storms generated by El Niño. Kelvin is an El Niño-spawned planetary wave, and it’s about to wreak havoc. And California isn’t wholly unprepared.
Last July, I talked about what this supercharged El Niño might do. I hate to say it, but it’s looking like some of the worst-case scenarios are in store. Check out some of the scenes from here in California.
